The Deputy Chairman of
the Conservative Party Human Rights Commission, Ben Rogers,
testified at a hearing on Burma
in the European Parliament in Brussels
on 20 March, alongside the UN Special Rapporteur for
Human Rights in Burma, Professor
Paulo Sergio Pinheiro, and Burmese exiles.
Ben
Rogers recently returned from his 13th visit to the
Thai-Burmese border, and has visited the
Burma
region altogether 17 times since 2000. In the hearing he
presented fresh evidence of the gross violations of human rights
perpetrated by the ruling military regime.
Burma
was ranked the worst violator among 18 countries monitored by
the Conservative Party Human Rights Commission in 2006.
